The PTI wish to celebrate schools that share our values; we believe long-term commitment to embedding The PTI philosophy into educational practice creates real impact. We want to recognise the courage and initiative of schools who empower inspirational teaching and subject specific pedagogy.
Netherhall School is a welcoming, friendly, vibrant and happy school located in rural West Cumbria. Students love their school and are proud to be part of an ambitious, caring community where positive, respectful relationships at the heart of everything we do. The school’s values and ethos are indicative of the Cumbrian spirit and represent the best of Maryport and West Cumbria. At Netherhall School, we greatly value our relationship with The PTI, whose values reflect our ambition to ensure that students of all backgrounds, talents and aspirations have access to a challenging and enriching educational experience. We are delighted to be featured as a Spotlight School.
We are now in our third year of Unlimited membership with The PTI. Our membership has given school leaders, heads of department, experienced teachers and ECTs a huge range of opportunities to learn, develop their practice and engage with a network of enthusiastic and knowledgeable colleagues in schools across the country. We currently hold The PTI Mark for Leadership, English and Languages. Subject leaders in Geography and Design and Technology are working towards objectives to achieve the Mark this academic year. In addition to this, our heads of music and art are completing the Middle Leader Certificate, and colleagues in Maths, English, Languages and Science are part of the New Teacher Subject Days. We are also proud to have a number of teacher leaders who are delivery partners for excellent PTI events.
Through the Department Development Programme and Middle Leader Certificate, The PTI has provided subject leaders with the opportunity to think ambitiously and creatively. Inspired by hearing from leading academics and collaborating with colleagues from different schools, they have worked to build a rich curriculum that is coherent, inspiring and challenging. They have developed an enrichment programme that allows students to engage with their subject through exciting events, visits and experiences beyond the classroom. Their work with The PTI has also allowed subject leaders to provide departmental CPD programmes that offer teachers deep knowledge of their subject through excellent subject-based pedagogy. By participating in The PTI’s Leadership Programme, members of the senior leadership at Netherhall have reinforced their ambition to raise aspiration for all students, remove barriers to success and consider how they put the child’s experience at the heart of education. Our early career teachers have benefitted from New Teacher Subject Days where they have thought deeply about subject pedagogy.
The PTI’s influence does not stop there. In total, Netherhall School staff attended over 60 online and in-person events in the last year. Colleagues have attended CPD sessions on topics from gastronomy in the languages classroom, to AI in music education; from soccernomics to teaching osmosis through practical experimentation. While the topics have been diverse, there has been a common theme; following each event, our passionate teachers have returned to their classroom full of new ideas, enthusiasm and energy, ready to provide students of Netherhall School with lessons that challenge, motivate and inspire."
